DIY Prayer Practice: The Morning Offering
One powerful and easy prayer practice that you could implement in your family life these days is "The Morning Offering."
The words of the morning offering allow us to give our entire day to God--all of our works, joys, sufferings, all of our encounters with others, and more. This helps us to surrender our day to God and start the day off right--with God on our mind and our hearts. This helps set the tone for what is to come during our day.
Parents, the Morning Offering prayer for adults goes like this:
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day
for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians,
and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month.
For children, the words that we say in my family go like this:
Good morning, dear Jesus,
this day is for you.
I offer you all that
I think, say, and do. Amen.
If you have small children or your children like music, you can always learn this song and sing it together in the morning.
I invite you to consider implementing this simple prayer practice into the life of your family. It changes the tone of the day when we give it to God when we get up (or for my family, as part of our breakfast prayer).
